Mel and Mel's Good Eats

Hi, and welcome to Mel and Mel's. Not exactly a place to eat, but a place to read about eating.

Our most recent vacation was spent at Blue Mountain Resort, near Collingwood. What a beautiful part of the country! The blue mountains were spectacular and we spent a lot of time hiking and climbing. Blue Mountain Resort has a cute little village (nice architecture) and a private beach, and we loved our condo. We'd never stayed in a loft before.

We were disappointed by the restaurants, though. Everywhere in Blue Mountain Resort serves Pepsi products and, more to the point, doesn't serve Coke. If you know Mel, you'll know that he's allergic to citric acid and therefore can't drink any Pepsi products. He would have had coffee instead, except that every restaurant in Blue Mountain Resort charges for each cup of coffee! We think Intrawest, which owns Blue Mountain Resort, must be an American chain, because all the Canadian restaurants we know give free refills on coffee.

As a result of this disappointment, we didn't eat in the village much. This was especially a disappointment to me, because I love trying new places. If they had had a choice of Pepsi or Coke, or even if they hadn't charged for refills on coffee, we probably would have tried every restaurant in the village. Instead we went into Collingwood, a delightful place in its own right. A few reviews of restaurants we tried have been added to our list below.

I'm allergic to citric acid (lemons, tomatoes, etc) so it's important to me that a restaurant serve Coke (which doesn't have citric acid) rather than Pepsi (which does). Of course, if a place gives us the choice of Coke or Pepsi, that's a place that really cares about its customers, and we'll give it a high rating!
